Obituary of Jean Beaumont Flewwelling

The children of Jean Beaumont (Manchester) Flewwelling would like our friends, relatives, and colleagues to know that our amazing mother passed away peacefully on March 14th, 2019, at the age of 96. Mom was born in Saint John, the daughter of the late Percy and Hazel (Morrison) Manchester. She was predeceased by our Dad, Paul H. Flewwelling, who passed away in 1974 and by her brothers Morris Manchester, Dr. J. Stewart Manchester, Dr. Donald F. Manchester and her sister, Dorothy Willett.

Mom was the centre of our large family and will be greatly missed by her children, Christine Flewwelling (Philip Thompson), St Andrews; Martin Flewwelling (Cynthia Mills Flewwelling), Rothesay; Brian (Theresa) Flewwelling, Quispamsis; Gwendolyn (Mark) Tonge, Quispamsis; Susan (Lane) Atkinson, Rothesay; Moira (Paul) McCarville, Rothesay. Mom was a loving example to all of us and took pride and special joy in her role as grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was also a loving aunt to a number of nieces and nephews.

Mom was positive, fun-loving, and had an adventurous spirit. She and Dad spent the early years of their marriage in England while Dad was a pilot trainer in the R.A.F. after WWII. Upon their return to Canada, Mom focused on raising the 6 of us and then returned to the workforce in various roles, most recently in real estate and retail sales. While in her 60s, she began university courses and enjoyed more travel. Over the years, she was a long time member of the I.O.D.E. and A.C.W., was an active member of Kennebecasis Senior Citizens Club, and volunteered with St. John Ambulance and Kennebecasis Food Basket. For her 90th birthday celebration, Mom enjoyed a cruise to Bermuda with her 4 daughters, 2 of her granddaughters and her good friend Joan Tonge.

Mom was known right up to the end of her life for her thoughtfulness, inquisitiveness, and wit, and was truly a giving and gracious lady.

We would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Parkland in the Valley, Embassy Hall for their kindness and care.

Arrangements are with Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visitation on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
