Obituary of Janet Belle Reid

With heavy hearts the family announces the death of Janet Belle (McLaughlin) Reid, of Quispamsis, wife of Ross Reid, occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born on May 21, 1950, in Edmonton, AB, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Ritchie) McLaughlin.

Apart from her loving dedication to her family and friends, Janet had a zest for life and adventure. A talented gourmet cook, a seamstress from childhood, her work - unique creative and professional. She was a fearless athlete, competing in high performance sailing Dinghies, racing at National level under terrifying conditions. She had much experience working in house construction with her family, was talented with a hammer and had an amazing ability to visualize complex details and explain to her husband. She was a frequent and good skier, both downhill and XCountry.  Dancing was a great love and she was good at it - doing many types (Square, Round, Latin Line, Country Line, and Ballroom) with her husband. She took up Tennis in recent years with much dedication, enjoying the challenges, the people and contributed to promoting the Club and its activities. She also had a passion for challenging games taking up Mahjong, enjoying the friendship and laughs with her girl friends. She enjoyed several wonderfully exotic Scuba Diving Adventures with her Son and Daughter in law, a highlight of her life. Janet was always friendly, cheerful and strong – as she endured her disease with dignity and style.

Besides being a homemaker, Janet was also a homebuilder for her family and with Habitat for Humanity for several years.  With Habitat, she was the Saint John branch Secretary for a few years, and enjoyed attending annual seminar working adventures across the country.

Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her sons; Marlon (Nina) of Edmonton, and Darren (Sepideh) of Calgary; brothers Harold, and Lorne (Diane), sister Muriel Wiley (Lawrence), as well as several nieces and nephews.

Janet was predeceased by her parents and infant sister.

At Janet's request there will be no visitation. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM from Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119).
