Obituary of Rita LeBreton

It is with appreciation of a life well lived that the family of Marie “Rita” LeBreton announces her passing which occurred on Friday, October 1, 2021, at her residence. Rita was born on January 15, 1924, in St-Basile, NB, and was the daughter of the late Côme and Marie Catherine (Legasse) Lajoie.

Rita will be remembered as a woman with a deep Catholic faith and love of the teachings of Jesus. She showed her devotion to her faith as a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of Stella Maris Church. During her working years, Rita worked incredibly hard as a housekeeper for many local hospitals including the Saint John Tuberculosis Hospital, General Hospital and then the Saint John Regional Hospital, from which she retired from. She enjoyed spending her Saturday afternoons with her ironing board, as her family would attest to, if you could name it, Rita could iron it. Rita loved to keep active by playing darts, cards and especially her beloved BINGO with her friends. Her grandchildren will remember her for their shopping trips together, Rita was great at finding the best bargains. She had a vivacious spirit and loved to laugh and have fun. Even in her later years, she found ways to enjoy her life, such as immersing herself in the fiddle and traditional French music that she cherished.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gerard (Dianna Glaspy) LeBreton; sister Célina (Lajoie) LeBlanc; grandchildren Denise (Shawn) Campbell and Gerard Jr.; great-grandchildren Jordan and Tyler; adopted grandson, Emmett; special god-son Father Stanislas Paulin, of OLPH, Rothesay; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, her Extra Mural nurse Nicole Brown- who was adored immensely for her kindness and loving care she showed to Rita; and her best dog friend, Finnigan. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert LeBreton; sisters, Soeur Annette Lajoie r.h.s.j; and Anna who passed away in childhood.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis, 849-2119. In keeping with Rita’s wishes, a private family service will take place followed by a graveside service where family and friends are invited to attend, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 1:00 PM, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Saint John.  Donations made in memory of Rita may be given to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Building Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
