Obituary of Douglas Kenneth Langan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born November 20, 1955 in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Helena (Morris) Langan, and step-son of the late Barbara Ann Jewett and son-in-law of the late Walter Coles. Doug will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Wendy who he was married to for 34 years, his children, Jennifer, Andrew (Patricia Hayes) and Ryan and his granddaughter Emily, who was light of his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Hines (Andrew), Robert Langan (Cindy), Beth Hamilton (Mark) and step-siblings, Kevin Jewett (Marion) and Janice Hanson (Bruce), his mother-in-law Marian Coles, his brother-in-law Robert Coles (Megan), sisters-in-law, Beth Sealy (Doug), Gail Lebel (Ken Chambers), Carolyn Guy (Trevor); nieces and nephews Christopher Webb (Jill), Chantelle Russell (Dave), Jessica Hines (Dylan Cook), Jillian Hines (Jordan Brigley), Justin Langan (Sarah-Jean Jones), Alicia Hamilton, Jessica Maynard (Ryan), Alyssa Sealy, Lily Coles, Nicholas and Thomas Guy; and several step nieces and nephews. Doug was a very special person and a wonderful family man. His compassion for people and his generous giving of his time to help others will be instilled in our memories forever. Doug was a loyal employee of NBTel/Aliant in a variety of positions in the purchasing, marketing and accounting/finance departments. He enjoyed his career at NBTel/Aliant tremendously and loved participating in the curling league with his co-workers over his 32 years of service. After his retirement in 2007, he joined the sales team at Saint John Volkswagen and then Saint John Hyundai. Doug loved the social aspects of his sales position and his success was largely based on his wonderful customer service and compassion. The family would like to extend thanks to Saint John Hyundai for their outstanding support over the past year of Doug’s illness. Doug was a hockey and soccer team manager for numerous teams over the past thirty years. He worked tirelessly at numerous fundraising events and organized activities, always in the best interest of the kids. Through hockey, he and Wendy made many wonderful friends and travelled extensively throughout the Maritimes supporting their children. Doug was a devoted organizer of the annual Tim Horton’s Jamboree for twenty years. Before cell phones were invented, Doug would use voice mail to organize all the hockey activities. At the end of ‘every’ voicemail he would say "Keep Your Head Up, Your Stick on the Ice, and We’ll See You and Your Family at the Rink!" The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. James Michael, Dr. Stephen Robinson, Dr. James Mowatt, Dr. Don Andrew and the Oncology and Infectious Disease Departments at the Saint John Regional Hospital and for the excellent care from the Kennebecasis Extramural team. Arrangements are under the care of the Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, New Brunswick (849-2119) where visitation will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 2 pm with a reception to follow. Remembrances in memory of Doug may be made to be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – Oncology Department, the IWK Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
