Obituary of James Furey

James "Jim" Furey of Baie Verte, Newfoundland, May 26, 1931 - July 20, 2018. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our wonderful father Jim Furey at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 20, 2018 at the age of 87. Jim was a long time resident of Baie Verte, Newfoundland until April 2018 when he moved to New Brunswick to be closer to his family. He was a proud member of the U.A., Pipefitters and Plumbers Local 740, NFLD, and also a veteran of the Korean Force light Infantry, stationed in Germany from 1951 to 1954. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Theresa Furey and son Wade Francis Furey. He is survived by his children: Rex (late Jenny) Furey, of Missouri; Ramona (Lorne) Norman, of NFLD; Norb (Janice) Furey, of Quispamsis; Jim Furey (Kathy Mitchell), of Baie Verte, NFLD; Sharon Furey, of Saint John; Paul Furey (Dino Iarrera), of Vancouver, BC; Paulette Furey (John Dillon), of Quispamsis; and Adrienne Furey, of Lloydminster, AB; grandchildren: Emmanuella, Megan, Kalon, Ryan, Jeremy, James, Michael, Sophia and Caroline; and great-grandchildren: Kasandra, William, Abrielle, Kaelyn and Ty. Big Jim, as he was known, lived with a zest for life and it showed through in his storytelling. He kept us laughing with his incredible and very witty sense of humour which was well known through his family, friends and those he worked with throughout Canada. He loved fishing, hunting and time in the woods. He was an amazing dad and grandfather in every way. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visitation on Tuesday, July 24 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Mark's Catholic Church, 171 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, on Wednesday, July 25 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will also be held at Foster Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Baie Verte, NFLD (709-532-9555) on Tuesday, July 31 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and Wednesday, August 1 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will also be celebrated from St. Pius X Roman Catholic Parish, 6 Highway 410, Baie Verte, NFLD on Thursday, August 2 at 2:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Jim may be made to the SPCA- Animal Rescue League or the Canadian Cancer Society.
