Obituary of Douglas John Walker

Surrounded by his loving family, Doug Walker of Quispamsis, cherished husband of nearly fifty years to Linda (Barkhouse) went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Centre Burlington, NS, on July 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Sydney and Freda (Mann) Walker. Besides his loving wife, Linda, Doug is also survived by his children, Craig (Natalie), Sherry Price (Eric) and Alyssa Walker (DJ) all of Fredericton; precious grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Desirae, Daniel, Alexi and Sophie; sisters, Delta Lake and Hazel Archibald both of Nova Scotia; as well as mother-in-law, Stella Barkhouse of Quispamsis. He was predeceased by an infant son, Gregory; sisters, Wendy Walker in infancy and Phyllis Sanford and brothers, Sydney Jr. and Walter. Doug's career in the Pulp & Paper Industry began at Canadian Keyes Fibre in Hantsport, NS. He retired from J.D. Irving Limited in 2009. Doug was a member of the Rothesay Baptist Church where he served the Lord in various ministries. He was a member of Gideons International of Canada for 30 years and served as Canadian President for 3 years. He touched the lives of people at home and abroad, distributing scripture. Doug was a dear man of faith who saw the good in people, influencing those in both his work and family life. After retirement, Doug pursued a passion to develop a parcel of land that he fell in love with in Quispamsis, now the beautiful River Valley Resort. Husband, son, dad, papa, papa dougie, a friend to all - Doug left an imprint on everyone he met, knew and loved. He smiles down on us from heaven above, hand in hand with his heavenly father. "Happy are those who have died in the Lord let them rest from their labours, for their good deeds go with them." Rev. 14:13 Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from Rothesay Baptist Church, 30 Vincent Road, Quispamsis, at 1:00 PM. A reception will immediately follow the service, at the church hall.
