Obituary of Gordon Wurtele Matthews

Gordon Matthews of Quispamsis, husband of Lynn (Baldwin) Matthews, passed away on August 13th, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Grosse Ile, Magdalen Islands on May 14, 1938, he was a son of the late Sam (Wurtele) and Clara Matthews. Gordon worked as the Assistant Director of the Laurenval School Board, prior to retirement. In addition to his wife, Gordon is survived by his children William, Ronald, Sonya, Tracy, Matthew, Jennifer, and Rebecca, grandchildren Christopher, Cheryl, Megan, Nicholas, Austin, Abbigail, Kira, Ethan, Amélie, Teakerne, Zane, Jacob, Danielle, and Andrea, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Gordon is also survived by his siblings, Baxter and Velma, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gordon was pre-deceased by his brothers William and Arnold. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 16th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119). A funeral service will be held in the Magdalen Islands at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Romero House, or a charity of the donor's choice.
