Obituary of James Forret

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my father, James “Jim” Forret, which occurred on Sunday, May 27th, 2012, at the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born in Kilmany, Scotland on December 15th, 1913, he was the son of the late Andrew and Ann (Horsburgh) Forret. Along with his family, Dad immigrated to Canada in 1926 and settled in St. Martins. In his early years, Dad worked in Salmon River. It was in 1934, he married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dot” Melvin and together they had four children. All too sadly he lost Mom in 2003. Their son Allan passed in 1994 and daughters Anne in 2003 (shortly after Mom) and Jean in 2009. Dad was also predeceased by his brother Tom and sisters Cecilia Humphrey and Ann Harris. Dad loved life. Throughout his working career, he was employed at the Saint John Dry Dock, the New Brunswick Protestant Orphans Home (as head of the farm) and from there he worked at Kingshurst Farms (as head herdsman) and later was employed at Kingshurst Dairies. Dad’s love of woodworking was passed on to his grandsons and his passion and knowledge of gardening was also shared with his children and grandchildren. Dad loved to fish and had many fond memories of his time spent trout and salmon fishing with family. He taught many classes on fly fishing with both the Hammond River and Salmon River Angling Associations. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Damon (Donald) of Quispamsis; sisters, Aileen Young of Chicago, Jean Gagnon of Sherbrooke, Quebec; brother, Robert (Lizette) of Sherbrooke, Quebec; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. As per Dad’s request, no visitation will be held. A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119, on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Martins Community Cemetery.
