Obituary of Dan Roman-Raymond Mostoway

Dan Roman is the radio name of Raymond Mostoway. Dan, known to many across Canada during a long career in broadcasting, and especially in his adopted home of New Brunswick, passed peacefully in his sleep on December 21st, 2016, at the age of 75. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Dan was 16 years old and still in high school when he began his radio announcing career at CKSW Swift Current. His talent developed rapidly and he soon found himself working in Toronto at the age of 19 joining his brother Duff Roman on the air at CKEY and CHUM and co-founding Roman Records. Their record label produced the first hits of David Clayton Thomas (Blood Sweat and Tears), The Paupers, and Levon and The Hawks who later became The Band behind Bob Dylan. Dan met the love of his life Bernice Comeau at CKCW Moncton where she was a volunteer for charity promotions and Dan was the Station Manager. They became inseparable and worked together on many community events. Dan was the President of Moncton’s Annual Christmas Parade for the underprivileged and worked tirelessly for the United Way. In later years, they put down roots in Quispamsis where Dan was General Manager at K100 St. John until the time of his retirement. In Quispamsis, Ray touched many lives. Dan was the regional coordinator for visiting Chinese students under the Atlantic Education International program. He and Bernice formed lasting friendships that are a testament to the outpouring of love and support he received during his illness. Dan will be remembered as kind, loyal and gregarious – with a ready wit. He will be dearly missed. Dan leaves behind his beloved wife, Bernice, brothers Nestor Mostowy (Margaret) and Duff Roman (Sandra), nephew Michael Mostowy (Kim) grandniece Rachel and grandnephew Troy, nephew Murray Mostowy (Donna), nephew Joel Mostoway (Diana), grand nieces Caroline and Emily, and nephew John Roman. He also is survived by mother-in-law Diana Comeau, sister-in-law Carole Comeau Landry (Robert), sister-in-law Brenda Comeau (Joanne), brother-in-law Jean-Roger Comeau (Chantal) and nephews Jérémie and Gabriel. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, for visitation from 2 - 4 pm and from 7 - 9 pm Tuesday, December 27th. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 171 Pettingill Road, at 10 am on Wednesday, December 28th.
