Obituary of George Peter Ernest Blanchard

The passing of George Peter Ernest Blanchard of Quispamsis occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Ernie was born July 25, 1940; the son of the late Pascal and Marie (Bourque/St. Coeur) Blanchard. He was a long time resident of Saint John and was employed at the Irving Oil Refining Division for 37 years. Ernie was an avid genealogist, stamp collector, ham radio operator VE9AAG, fisherman and golfer. He retired from the Reserve Navy with rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 6595. Ernie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna (McHugh) Blanchard, his only son Bradley of Ottawa, ON, daughters; Deborah Knox (Rob) of Lower Millstream, NB, Theresa McVea (Paul) of Quispamsis, NB, grandchildren; Amy Sage (Mikah) of Fredericton, NB, Kelly Knox of Quispamsis, Sarah Knox of Sussex, NB, Kyle McVea of Toronto, ON, and Kelsey McVea of Quispamsis. He is survived by brothers; Fred of Edmonton, AB, Louis of Shannonville, ON, Patrick, Brian, and Norman, all of Saint John, sisters; Doreena of Nackawic, NB, and Beatrice of Ottawa, ON. He was predeceased by sisters; Joan of Montreal and Doreen in infancy. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Mark’s Catholic Church on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10AM. Interment to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or St. Mark’s Building Fund or charity of donor’s choice.
