Obituary of Genevieve Lutes

The family of M. Genevieve Lutes announces her passing which occurred on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Shannex in Quispamsis, NB in her 91 st year. Genevieve was born on November 13, 1932, and was the daughter of the late, Frank and Genevieve (McGowan) McDonald.

Many people talk about loved ones being the “glue” of their family. This was the truth when it came to Genevieve. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to 6 children, 14grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Genevieve was a gatherer of friends and made them easily. She enjoyed getting to know people and truly enriched the lives of those whom she had taken under her wing. She kept in touch by phone when she couldn’t be there in person. Style, manners and telling the truth mattered to her. She had to have her lipstick on whenever she met people. She cooked great family meals, but vegetables were always safe on her plate. She was truly committed to her special daughter Carol Anne her whole life. Genevieve/mom had a well-developed sense of humor that she passed on to all her children. If you made her the butt of a joke, she was armed and ready. She was a devout Catholic

and found great solace in her faith. She said many rosaries and novenas for causes that she chose, or those that were brought to her.

Genevieve put great value on education, and she achieved a Bachelor of Arts at a young age. She instilled this principle in her children, and grandchildren. She taught music, was an avid reader and an expert bridge player. Her best days often included a game of bridge with her friends with a cocktail or two and phone calls or visits from her family. She was a world class mentor and advice giver to all who knew her.

Genevieve is survived by her children: Kathryne “Kathy” (Donnie) Walker, James "Jim" (Colina), John (Kari-Lynn), Deborah “Debbie”(Pat) McLaughlin, Carol Lutes, and Robert(Monique) Lutes; sisters, Ann (Doug) Burke and Carolyn Watson; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Joe McDonald; and her sister Elaine McDonald.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd., Quispamsis (506-849-2119).
