Obituary of Verna Baxter

It is with heavy hearts the family of Verna (White) Baxter, wife of the late Jim Baxter, announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, August 17, 2023. Verna was born in Saint John, NB on September 24, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Freeman and Dorothy (Williams) White.

 

During her 90 years, Verna lived a vibrant and full life. She was a stenographer until she started her family and became a full-time mom. Verna loved to bowl and was a long-time member of the Tuesday morning ladies league, first in Saint John and then Quispamsis. She loved to square dance, play cards, travel, and entertain family and friends. After retirement, she and her husband Jimmy spent winters in Florida. She also enjoyed camping in PEI and loved her lobster dinners.

 

Verna is survived by her daughters, Wanda (Brian) Thomas and Paula Baxter (Ron); her grandchildren: Nathan (Becky) Thomas, Nicole Thomas, Brandy (Kyle) Watson and Ben Morrow (Kelsey); great-grandchildren: Ash, Brielle, Lindon, Maddy, Emma, baby Harper as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Jim Baxter; her parents; her brothers: Raymond, Jim and Gerald and her sister, Doreen.

 

Resting at Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119), with visiting on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 pm. A funeral service will be held from Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Verna will be laid to rest with her husband in Hardings Point Cemetery. For those who wish, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Society of NB or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB.
