Obituary of William Kenneth Snodgrass

It is with heavy hearts that the family of  William Kenneth (Bill, Willie) Snodgrass, beloved husband of Connie (Heaysman), announces his passing on Friday, February 16, 2024, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. Bill was born on December 7, 1935 in Saint John, NB, and was the son of the late Kenneth and Kay (Shaw) Snodgrass.

Bill and Connie met almost 70 years ago and were married in 1955. A few years later they began welcoming their sons to the world. They raised their sons to be active and to have fun. Together they spent a few summers packing up their Volkswagen Beetle and their buggy to go on family trips to the White Mountains in the US and many other places. Many summers were then spent on the Kennebecasis and St John Rivers on his beloved boat Lorelei. When the boys flew the coop to raise their own families, Bill and Connie spent time exploring the Maritimes in their camper. Caldwell Wharf was one of Bill’s favourite places to spend time on his boat or his camper, along with his many friends. Camping was a passion of Bill’s in his later years and he continued to go camping right up until 2023. Bill will be remembered as a sociable and funny person. He loved to make people around him smile, even if it was at the expense of himself. He had a special gift that allowed others to feel comfortable around him and he could make friends with anyone. Bill loved a good game of cards, shooting pool, or bowling, and participated in the Saint John Senior Games for many years. During his life Bill worked hard at the Saint John Iron Works where he  made many lifelong friends. When he retired from the Iron Works, he went on to manage the Rothesay Yacht Club which allowed him to spend his days on the river where he was truly happy. Remember Bill anytime you have a good laugh, spend some time on the water, or when an old song comes on the radio.

Bill is survived by his best friend and wife, Connie, his sons David (Muriel), Donald (Gloria McAdam), and Douglas (Lilly Lord), sisters Jean Marino and Betty Allan, grandchildren Jennifer Hudson, Ben Snodgrass, Angela Snodgrass and Jessica Snodgrass, great-grandchildren,   Cailey and Sarah Hudson, and Walker and Nixon Snodgrass, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Robert and Gerald, and his sister Frances Fournier.

A special thank you from the family to the KV Extra Mural team for their care and support during Bill’s last days.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119), with visitation on Thursday, February, 22, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 PM.
