Obituary of G. William Magee

It is with great sadness that the family of G. William "Bill" Magee announce his passing which occurred on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Bill was born at home on Manawagonish Road in Saint John on January 20, 1936 to Gerhard and Dorothy (Donner) Magee, and was the husband of Marilyn (Knight) Magee He started his business career with Furness Withy Shipping Company in Montreal and then Saint John, and subsequently joined NBTel where he worked for over 30 years. He loved to play baseball and hockey and took an interest in all sports. Music was a love in his life, and he sang with the Men of Fundy, the NBTel Chorus, and was a member of the Saint David's United Church Choir for over 40 years. His three sons and their families were the pride and joy of his life. As they grew up he coached their minor hockey and little league baseball teams. When not coaching he was still in the stands supporting them in every sport they played. When his grandchildren arrived his love and interest was focused on them and all activities that they participated in. Bill was an avid volunteer and supported the KD Lunch Program at Saint David's United Church and the Saint John Ostomy Association with his time. He also served on the Board of Ken Val Suites, the Outreach Committee of Saint David's, Saint David's Men Group, and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn (Knight); son Chris (Ann), their children Jeremy, Kathryn and Alex of Saint John; son Michael (Tanya), their children Erin and Hannah of Bedford, NS; son David (Barb), and their daughter Charlotte of Quispamsis, NB; and his brother, Jim (Esther) and their family of Rothesay, NB. He was predeceased by his parents Gerhard and Dorothy. Many thanks to all the nurses and doctors on 3CN and Palliative Care who took such good care of Bill these past several weeks, and a special thanks to his family doctor Dr. Robert Poirier and his staff, Heather and Nicole. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119). There will be no visitation as per Bill’s request. A funeral service is to be held on Thursday, August 31st at 11am at Saint David's United Church, Rothesay. There will be a reception following the service in the church hall. A private family interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint David's KD Program, IWK or Special Olympics- Nova Scotia.
