Obituary of Mary Kathleen Orchard

With love and appreciation for her life, the family of Kathleen (Slocum) Orchard, wife of the late Ralph Orchard, announce her death which occurred on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Kathleen was born on August 2, 1923 in Union Settlement and is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Kathleen is the daughter of the late Daniel and Alice (Jeffrey) Slocum. Kathleen lived her whole life in the community of Waterborough. She married Ralph on September 19, 1944. Together, raising four children, they spent their life working side by side on their farm. Kathleen prepared and cooked all meals for the farm workers, family and anyone who came to sit at the kitchen table. Kathleen was very involved and active in her community, past president and member of the Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Women's Institute and faithful member of Saint Luke's Anglican Church. Kathleen was a very gentle and kind mother, grandmother and friend to all. She filled her home with music, dancing, laughter, food and love. She is survived by her son Neil (Linda) of Waterborough, daughter Irene (Carl) Thorne of Quispamsis, daughter Barb Ekstrom of Saint John, son-in-law Dwight Stuart of Saint John, sisters-in-law, Ella Thomas of Missouri, USA, and Mary Slocum of Union Settlement. Kathleen is known as Nannie Kay to nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. As well as her husband Ralph and parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her daughter Carol Stuart, grandson Peter Orchard, son-in-law Randy Ekstrom, three sisters, Doris Stilwell, Marjorie Burke and Geraldine Slocum, two brothers Lloyd and Clifford Slocum. The family wish to thank and acknowledge all the loving hands that helped and cared for our mother at the Mill Cove Nursing Home. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visitation on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 2:30 - 4:30 PM and 5:30 - 7:30 PM.
