Obituary of Rita Marie McShane

The family of Rita Marie McShane of Jubilee Hall, Quispamsis, NB are saddened to announce her unexpected passing on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was the loving wife of Walter Francis McShane who died in 2004. She was born in Doyles, Newfoundland on November 18, 1922 to Annie (O'Reilly) and Thomas Doyle. Rita is survived by her seven children; Cathy Johnston of Woodstock, NB, Leonard (Louise) of Quispamsis, Lidwina (John) Taylor of Quispamsis, John (Pauline) of St. Margaret's Bay, NS, Brian (Carolyn) of St. John's, NF, Brendan (Gloria) of Dartmouth, NS, and Michael (Lynn) of St. John's, NF. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; Katie Johnston, Theresa (Patrick) Grant, Thomas and Bradley McShane, Stephanie (Keith) Alexander, Jeff and Pamela Taylor, Alexi, Emma, Joshua, Erika, Marc, Allie, Ian and Liam McShane. She also had three great-grandchildren; Catherine and Henry Alexander, and Braydon Grant. Rita is survived by her two brothers, Michael and Leonard Doyle of Newfoundland. The most important things in Rita's life were her faith and her family. She was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Riverview, NB, and remained active at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Quispamsis until the end. Rita loved gathering at any time with her family and especially during the summer months at her cottage in Little Shemogue, NB. Rita graduated in 1945 from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Glace Bay, NS and worked most of her life as a Registered Nurse retiring from the George Dumont Hospital in Moncton in 1982. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter Eileen, son-in-law Dr. Joseph Johnston, two brothers; James and Kevin Doyle and her sister Marie MacNeil. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Prayer Vigil will be held at 8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Mark's Building Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice. Interment to be held at a later date in Melrose, NB.
